She Rises, the women’s branch of GlobalRize, has also made a start in Spanish: Ella Resplandece. Enthusiastic volunteers have put a lot of work into it, and we can see the results right away: the new Facebook page already has 12,500 followers.
In February this year, Gerdina Korf, leader of She Rises, and Joanne Jonkman, a mentor for the Spanish team, “coincidentally” ended up in the same small group when a Zoom meeting split up for a time to meet each other and pray. The idea to set up a Spanish-language She Rises was quickly born. The new name for this project was chosen: Ella Resplandece – She is shining, from Isiah 60:1:
Arise, shine, for your light has come,
And the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
A beautiful group of volunteers arose, who all put their shoulders to the wheel for this project and have their own bond with the Spanish language.
The team leader is Maresa den Oudsten who, with her husband Albert, works in Peru among the disadvantaged. Albert is also active with GlobalRize as moderator for the Spanish Facebook page Palabras Bíblicas.
The previously mentioned Joanne Jonkman also pitches in. She learned Spanish in high school and has been an active Spanish mentor for GlobalRize since she was eighteen! (She was the mentor for Heydi from Guatemala.) Members of the team include Deinah, a woman from Aruba with a mother from Colombia and Evert, a missionary kid, among others.
Every day there is a new post placed on Facebook and a new devotional is shared. There are also plans to share prayer requests on the page.
This new branch of the women’s ministry is working to set up groups on WhatsApp. Many Latinas use WhatsApp to communicate with each other. At this time there are two groups set up with a total of 40 members. Within a group, the women share their joys, sorrows, encouraging Bible texts, testimonies; and have prayed and fasted together. A third group is in the making.
The group of volunteers would like to offer even more. They write blogs for their new website that is also a part of the project. They are looking for more women who are actively minister to Spanish speakers. And they also post a video series about the women in the Bible who met Jesus.
We are thankful for this wonderful first month and pray that the Light of the Gospel will shine through the lives of many Spanish speaking women!
