GlobalRize joins forces with African university to train pastors
There are more than 100,000 untrained pastors in Kenya. The IAU (International African University) in Nairobi has trained 1,000 of them over the past year. That’s great… but how are all the others being trained?
Good training for pastors is essential—it prevents all kinds of unwelcome heresies and sects from gaining a foothold.
That’s why it’s so wonderful that during his visit to Kenya, Marten Visser, together with Tobias Omollo (director of GlobalRize Kenya), was able to make some great agreements with the African university in Nairobi.
The university is asking each of its 1,000 trained pastors to mentor ten other pastors. These 10,000 pastors will be invited to participate in GlobalRize’s online pastor training program, using materials provided by our partner, the NET Foundation. The university is also appointing 50 group mentors—each responsible for guiding 20 mentor pastors, who in turn will each mentor 10 student pastors. Through this plan, we hope to equip a total of 10,000 pastors!
Marten Visser: “This plan will undoubtedly encounter challenges in many ways, but it’s a wonderful approach to reaching a group far too large for traditional Bible schools to handle. It’s inspiring to see how fully the university administration supports this initiative, driven by their deep desire to provide pastors in their country with solid theological training.”
Will you join us in praying for this plan? The need is great—so many pastors still lack proper theological formation!
