New Facebook page in Hausa language reaches thousands of people

Reaching people who have not previously heard the Gospel is at the top of our priority list. The Hausa in West Africa are such an unreached people; they rank sixth on the Ranking List of Unreached Peoples. The good news is that our Hausa language team leader, Courage is his name, launched a Facebook page on April 1. The page already has 16,000 followers and that number is increasing every day.

Every day, Courage posts a Bible verse with an image and an excerpt from the Jesus movie on the Facebook page. This produces many responses from Muslims, Christians and followers of the traditional African religion alike.

Friendly and hostile reactions

According to Courage, some reactions are friendly, others hostile. “The Lord God is helping me to witness and sow the best I can into the lives of these people and give the Holy Spirit room to complete the work.” He is currently managing the Facebook page all by himself. Sometimes he spends hours at a time chatting with people who show an interest in the Gospel.
That is why Courage asks for our prayers for volunteers to help with the Facebook page. “There is a lot of work and it requires a lot of commitment,” he says. Courage receives guidance from Lucky Simon, the leader of our Nigerian team (which opened its own office in Nigeria last year).

Mentors needed for Bible courses

Courage has drafted in nearly a dozen theology students who are currently translating Bible courses into Hausa. Lucky Simon is working with these students to prepare them for their role as mentors. Prayer for more helpers is welcomed, however, as Courage writes to us, “Pray for mentors for the Bible courses, so we can start mentoring students next month.”

Join us in prayer!

Courage shares a number of stories about people who have been touched by the posts on the Facebook page, including devoted Muslims. Clearly, the Hausa team is on the spiritual front lines. Prayer is much needed. Please join us in praying for volunteers who can help Courage, and pray that the people with whom they interact will be touched by the Gospel.
