Stories from our field
God paves a way, right through the war
He has already completed several of GlobalRize’s online courses. Now he knows for sure: he wants to follow Jesus and join a church. Daniel from Ethiopia asks his mentor for advice. Is there anyone who can tell him where he can find a church near him?
This question is all the more pressing because Daniel lives in Bahir Dar, a city in northwestern Ethiopia that has been at war for several years. Bahir Dar has been under siege, with residents facing limited internet access and restricted movement. But God paved the way right through these limitations.
Woudineh, our Amharic team leader, says, “I discovered that a mentor of ours lives in the same city as Daniel, Pastor Atrsaw.I tipped off this pastor and he immediately contacted Daniel.
He soon discovered that Daniel has a genuine desire to grow in faith. A bond developed between the two.” Daniel participated in courses to grow in faith led by Pastor Atrsaw. In the process, he was also prepared for baptism, and on November 3, 2024, the time had come: along with several others, he was baptized – to his great joy!
Woudineh: “Thanks to dedicated people like Pastor Atrsaw, Daniel developed a connection with a local church, to which he now feels committed. He is growing in faith and continues to take online courses offered by GlobalRize.
This story, truly from screen to church, portrays a contemporary interpretation of the mission statement in Matthew 28:19. It is wonderful to see how mentors and churches join forces to care for those who want to follow Jesus. GlobalRize remains committed to building bridges between the digital world and local churches, connecting people with the support they need to flourish in faith.”
Woudineh invites you to pray for:
- An end to the conflict in Ethiopia and triumph for the peace of Christ.
- Daniel’s growth in faith and his walk with Christ.
