“Nobody can know”

Hassan* had a prominent position in Afghanistan. He came to faith through contact with foreigners and became one of the most active students at GlobalRize. Hassan has completed almost all the courses offered. He had no contact with other Christians, and this was the main way he grew spiritually.

At one point he also showed up in the training for pastors. “How did you get here?” asked his mentor. “You’re not a pastor, are you?” “I am,” said Hassan. “Every Sunday morning I lead a house church for my wife and children. Those are teens and twenties. Together we serve God. But no one else can know, because then we are not sure of our lives.”

Set up internet mission

Like many of the Afghan elite, Hassan fled the country after the Taliban seized power. First he ended up in Pakistan. Later he was granted asylum in another country. As soon as he got there, he told us, “Now I would like to set up internet missions for GlobalRize in Pashto and Dari.” Those are the two main languages of Afghanistan. And his children work with him. It doesn’t always go well for him. For example, his house has been hit by a flood twice in recent times.

Careful

Hassan is still extremely careful. Partly because he is well known in Afghanistan, it is important for the safety of the many family members who have remained behind that Hassan remains anonymous.
